Branching off of our short film, Holy is the Flesh, Virginia City Films will create a dramatic and riveting television series to encapsulate the grandiosity, success, and wonders of this greatest Western boomtown whose copious discoveries of gold and silver ore ensured Union victory over the Confederacy in the Civil War and the future of a United States. World history would have been very different without Virginia City if two countries had emerged from that titanic struggle, locked in endless conflict, and puppets of Europe's leading powers.

 

As Ulysses S. Grant’s Vice President once perfectly stated in a speech made at Virginia City, “The output in bullion had gone forth to swell the coffers of the world – to alleviate suffering on the battlefield, to play a part in national politics, to aid in freeing the slaves, to sustain the failing credit of the country, to provide the national armies with the endurance needed to win the war of rebellion- their discovery had made it possible for President Lincoln to add a much-needed star to the galaxy floating over Sun Mountain.”

 

Not only did the multi-billion dollar “Comstock Lode” finance the Union war effort and the western railroads, its wealth built San Francisco from a tiny rough town into a world class city of 160,000, laid the Trans-Atlantic cable and so much more.

 

Starting in 1859-1880, this series follows the remarkable discovery and mammoth effort of thousands of people who arrived from all over the world, to make Virginia City, for over twenty years, the richest place on earth. It is a grand story about America and all its possibilities.
